“SHIHAN” Robert Rohrey. Stichter Budokan Karate Nederland

  • 5e Dan (Budo-Ryu)
  • 3e Dan (Shotokan)
  • 4e Dan (Kissaki-Kai)
  • Instructeur Kyusho Jutsu LEVEL2
  • Instructeur Kissaki Kai
  • Hoofd Instructeur Budo-Ryu

In the year 1970, Robert Rohrey started with SHOTOKAN in the Netherlands when he was 18 years of age.
In 1973 he left for South-Africa, Pietermaritzburg where he met Hugh Saddler 2nd Dan, who ran a BUDOKAN dojo. Robert trained there 3 times a week for five years and he traveled many times to Durban for extra training with Ray Ryan 6th Dan – (Ray was at that time Master of Style). In 1978, Rob was graded to the rank of 1st Dan. That same year he returned to the Netherlands.

Robert picked up SHOTOKAN again under Rade Donevic 5th Dan Shotokan who graded him in 1984 and 1990 second and third Dan. During that time Rob also met Taiji Kase 8th Dan Shotokan. Rob visited seminars with Shihan M. Miura 10th Dan Shotokan and Shihan Hirokazu Kanazawa 10th Dan Shotokan.

Robert became a member of the KBN – the official Dutch Karate Body – in 1995/2001

It all changed when he met Vince Morris 8th Dan, director of the International Institute of Kyusho Jutsu Research – IIKR - and founder of KISSAKI KAI Karate-Do.
1996 - Rob was appointed IIKR coordinator for the Netherlands.
1997 - Rob became a Kissaki Kai instructor and given the rank of 4th Dan on the 11th of October 1997.
1998 - Rob received the grade of teacher in Kyuso Jutsu
The last 3 years  Sensei Rob spends a lot of time in Belgium with Bunkai training at the Kissaki Kai Dojo with Guy Janssens 5th Dan Kissaikai Kai.

Personal note from Rob:
I tried for several years to get the Budo Ryu style recognized by the Karate-Do Bond Nederland. I even tried to renew the contact with Budokan SA. I phoned on several occasions the Durban dojo but all I found out was, that Ray Ryan left for England, and nobody could tell me where he stayed, and that the Founder of the system – Dai Hanshi Richard Salmon 8th Dan Budo Ryu was living in the United States.
In 2007 contact has been restored with Budokan SA and with the Founding Father of Budokan SA/Budo Ryu Karate. Rob has now the title of SHIHAN 5th Dan Budo-Ryu and regards Richard A. Salmon as one of the few great karate masters still alive.
